We’d like to start this off with a tale about Nikki and her love for the sea, so much so that today she goes by the name of Nikki Ocean. She’s an artist with overflowing light inside her, she allows it to burst into many art forms: painting, writing, make-up, graphic design and even interior design some months back. But she heard a call to go home, and felt the need to be closer to where she gathered all her inspiration: the moon, animals, nature and of course, the ocean. And like the mermaid that she is, she danced with the crashing waves of change, lived by the seaside and fell in love so deeply, she ends up marrying it.
It all connects with everything from there – The Salty Studio, which used to be a run-down, tight space near the shore, turned into an interior design collaboration with her friend and a mission to rearrange the place into something where they could nurture art and let the magic run free. By the beach she spends most days creating art, calling it her DIY Artist Residency.
This episode we share with Nikki is a groundswell of intuition and heart. We talk about the theme of her most recent collection and exhibit ‘Ghost’ and how important it is for us to learn how to be alone and enjoy the company of ourselves before all else. As a breaker of stereotypes, she teaches us to expand into more than just one label or medium of art. And as we talk about the struggles that come along with pursuing what we love, earning a living for ourselves included, be prepared to be encouraged by Nikki’s genuine love for her art and how she chooses to keep it untouched by the pressure that money brings.
We hope you’ll be just as inspired after listening to this one ♡

You’ve Got Mail: A postcard from the universe.
“Stars die and reborn […] They get so hot that the nuclei of the atoms fuse together deep within them to make the oxygen we breathe, the carbon in our muscles, the calcium in our bones, the iron in our blood. All was cooked in the fiery hearts of long vanished stars. The cosmos is also within us. We’re made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself. There are as many atoms in each molecule of your DNA as there are stars in the typical galaxy. This is true for dogs, and bears, and every living thing. We are, each of us, a little universe.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson
The cosmos speak of this magic; and it wants you to understand the depth of your sweep and essence.
Dearest Star Stuff,
Ask and you shall receive.
If you should send me your vision, what might you say?
Tell me a story. Write me a poem. Fly through your words.
Speak to the billions of sparklers who share the same makeup as you do.
We’ve lost the art of letter writing.
The ability to play, and imagine too.
Awaiting a response from the child in you.
Good luck Star Stuff.
The most creative “Letter to the Universe” will capture the cosmos in a humble, 5 x 7 inch, hand-painted postcard from Nikki Ocean.
